This fellow is a good example of the wood like qualities of my work. Many people have remarked that my pieces appear carved rather than sculpted. I suppose the sharp angles and planes may give that impression. I think they come from the fact that I work with quite leather hard clay almost all the times so when I trim to shape those planes are retained. As a former woodworker I can’t say that they seem carved to me but I think it is difficult to see your own work clearly. This piece is still in the process of being mounted as you can see in one of the photos.
