This piece was begun late in 2024 when I had just returned to the Virginia Studio. Unfortunately I initially underglazed it with a brown color that burned out and faded quite badly when fired to glaze temperatures. I had used the cuerda seca like technique with a sharpie pen to create the individual gradients on the feathers and they had to each be repainted. It sat on my shelf for quite a while before I tackled it again. I am quite happy with it now. The wings each contained a glued on piece to reduce the chances of breakage during handling. It was the first sculpture I made in sections.
The piece is meant to be wall hung and represents an osprey in the last stage of diving for fish when it is just about to enter the water.
