Shady Arawana

This is the final version of my Arawana template developed for my workshop series. Read more about that here. I seem to either gravitate toward bright colors or earth tones. I like this combination of the two which uses an underglaze water color technique that results in a blended gradient. It is created by making a pool of underglaze inside an outline of sharpie marker resist. The piece is tilted so that the pool shifts toward one end of the outline. More water down underglaze is added with a large calligraphy brush to keep it wet on one end and deposit more color. Once it dries completely the result is a smooth gradient. Gradients can be layered to add depth and introduce different hues.
