Wood Fired Nude

The studio I was at in Lubbock Texas had a wood fired kiln and did firings 2-3 times a year. I was lucky enough to get my first nude into one of them and I love the finish she acquired.

She was created during a time when my own body was in transition and suddenly didn’t seem to fit. I was struggling to accept its new shape and abilities. Making this sculpture helped me process those changes.

It is a porcelain piece with flashing slip on it which encouraged the flames to paint its surface.
